Biography

Linda Cardozo is Professor of Urogynaecology and Consultant Gynaecologist at King’s College Hospital, London. She trained at Liverpool University Medical School and qualified MBChB in 1974. Thereafter she developed a special interest in urinary incontinence at St George’s Hospital under the aegis of Professor Stuart Stanton obtaining an MD in 1979, MRCOG
in 1980, and FRCOG in 1991.

Following her appointment as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at King’s College Hospital in 1985 she continued to develop her interest in all aspects of urogynaecology including the influence of hormones on the lower urinary tract, conservative and surgical treatment of stress incontinence, the patho-physiology and pharmacological treatment of detrusor overactivity and recurrent urinary tract infections as well as the management of urogenital prolapse.

Professor Cardozo now heads a busy and productive multi-disciplinary tertiary referral urogynaecology department at King’s College Hospital. She has a large clinical workload dealing with complex urogynaecological problems in a supra-regional referral unit teaching medical students and training junior doctors. To date 9 subspecialty trainees and over 50 fellows have developed their urogynaecological skills at King’s generating 18 higher degrees, MD’s and PhD’s as well as numerous publications and presentations at International meetings. Professor Cardozo has directed this clinical research and her publications include more than 750 original papers in peer review journals, 25 books and 130 book chapters. Her H factor is 77 and she is a member of the editorial board of 9 scientific journals.

In addition to her clinical and teaching roles Professor Cardozo lectures at both national and international meetings. She undertakes medicolegal work and is an advisor to scientific organisations and industry.

Professor Cardozo has been President of the International Urogynaecological Association, European Urogynaecological Association, Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women's Health and Section of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Royal Society of Medicine. She was Founding Chairman of the British Society of Urogynaecology, Past Chairman of British Menopause Society and of the Education Committee of International Continence Society.
She is currently Co-Chairman of the International Consultation on Incontinence. For many years she was International Fellows Representative on the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists where she also served on numerous committees.

In 2013 Professor Cardozo received a lifetime achievement award from the International Urogynaecological Association. She was awarded an OBE in 2014 for services to Urogynaecology and Women’s Health. In 2016 she was honoured by the University of Athens with the title Doctor Honoris Causa. In 2017 she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Continence Society and in 2018 she was awarded the first lifetime achievement award by the British Society of Urogynaecology.
